Lamptey and Willian on offer for Watkins. Thinking of countering with Bowen for Lamptey and Willian. Thoughts?

So Castagne is injured until the 21st of November, I currently have KWP, AWB, and Enda Stevens as defenders. Should I drop Stevens (don't think there are many possibilities for a trade) and if so, who could I pick up in the FA or Waivers?

John Wallin's avatar

I don’t mind dropping Enda at all and I have no idea who is on waivers in your league, hard as I try to stay up on everything 😂.

Coufal is 39% owned; West Ham and Palace guys should be available and have a nice run for the next 2-3 matches; Chelsea going to be harder to find but good fixtures too. Fofana is 48% selected right now.

Hey! How would you rank Son, Sterling, Kane, Jimenez, in Togga scoring for this season? Son and Kane to fall down a bit?

John Wallin's avatar

I’m doing this right now actually; there will be mid-season ranks for those playing new leagues or those looking to wheel and deal during the winter window.

Right now I have them Sterling Kane Son -gap- Jimenez

Toggatrax. With Telles now confirmed as having Covid-19, that leaves me with only two starting defenders! Do I take the hit and play with 10 men or do I swap out bench warmer R.Pereira for a free agent. My opponent has a poor team, save for his fearsome forward line of Bamford, Salah and DCL. I would normally take the hit and hold as Pereira is quality but a factor in this is the need to protect my unbeaten six-game win streak that sees me top of the league.

John Wallin's avatar

Normally I would also hold and play 10, but if the difference is locking up a potential win vs maybe getting 12-15 weeks of Pereira later I’d take a shot at the win. Telles might be a two week problem so you’re getting a couple weeks of production and giving yourself the best shot.

(But as soon as Telles is back go grab a Pereira back up!!)

Q: Hey jw. I have plenty of big hitter forwards and mids but having trouble with my other forwards. How would you rank McBurnie, Greenwood and Lookman? I can fit one unless I drop a mid like Trossard/Bowen/Under.

A: Well I just wrote about Lookman yesterday - so if you're a subscriber you can access that! - and I'd rate him first of that group for regular minutes and points. It's still Greenwood for streaming PPM value. I love Oli but...man I hate Sheffield's attack (until Lys Mousset heals and delivers unto us a 1/2 season to rival the basterd offspring of Michu and Mahrez.

Q: In the OFPL: Drop Mitro for Karlan Grant? Looks like Diangana & Periera are creating much more for him. Fulham attack is shit. Just not sure because Mitrovic is on PK’s. Any thoughts?

A: I would rather have Mitro but I understand the frustration and Grant might get more from open play. We have a larger EPL sample from the Fulham forward and his 2020-21 numbers look ok. In 2018-19 he played 3,280 and posted 0.45 npxG+xA/90 and scored 11 goals (just one penalty). This year he's played 478' and posted 0.51 npxG+xA/90, he has two goals including one penalty, but his numbers are in line. This is exactly what we thought we were getting and a guy who'll play 3,000+ minutes and create an expected goal or assist every other match is a valuable asset. Fulham ARE shit though, so it's going to be rough. In Togga scoring you can absorb that a lot more easily, in OFPL you're waiting for the 12-15 matches when Mitrovic gets an attacking return.

Q: Get: Maddison + Reguilion | Give: Harrison + ASM. What do you think?

A: That's a fun trade. I'd do it for the points and consistency but I'd rather own Harrison and Saint-Max and get to watch them every weekend knowing their antics are scoring me points. Here's the thing I expect *most* people who read me know: I'd rather have fun and love the guys on my team that make every correct decision and win with a team I hate. Is winning fun? Yes. Winning with your own guys is the most fun. If Maddison or Reguilon are your guys, go pay the price to get them in; you know they're going to score points!

I have Auba Vardy and ings. Would you try to trade one and what would you look for in return?

John Wallin's avatar

Nearly impossible to answer! In a vaccum I would say don't trade any of them. They're exceptional forwards who start basically every week and each of them is capable of scoring 20 goals *this season*. There's nothing more you could want. Now, if you *also* have like Maupay and Bamford rotting on your bench then I would wholly support trading one of them and targeting a MID1. Ranks are being updated, but I wrote about the no-doubt midfielders on Tuesday of this week.

Hey Gaffer! How do you see the value of Aguero this season?

Expand full comment
John Wallin's avatar

I'd really like him to stop getting injured. The issue with Aguero and his rank this summer was never about competition for minutes or handing the baton to Jesus, it was only ever about his health and the concerns about the restart, a shortened season without any reduction in matches/cups/internationals and his old body. I don't just mean his age, but the miles he's logged on the pitch and off having been a top-flight international competing at the highest level for more than a decade.

There's an old adage in fantasy sports and front offices that you'd rather get rid of a player a season too early than hang onto him a season to long. I think we're in Aguero's final season of FPL relevance. He'll be 33 before next season and may not even remain with City. This doesn't answer your question.

I think his value is as one of the 10 highest PPM forwards in FPL draft but his minutes have to be further reduced as a result of the injury now. His last three seasons npxG+xA/90: 0.89, 0.91, 0.88 - damn! Last three seasons minutes: 1,963, 2,459, 1,452 - damn! but the bad kind. I'd sign up for 1,452 if it all came across 18 starts (assuming he never makes it past 75-80').

Hi Gaffer. Thanks for this thread. Question: How to improve my team in our 10 Teams Togga Draft League?

Johnstone

Azpi/Fofana/Tarkowski/Lamptey/Maguire

ASM/JWP/Maddison/M Pereira/McNeil

Richarlison/Mahrez/Willian/Haller

Specifically:

-Hang on to Haller? Or get McBurnie who is a FA at the moment?

-What to do with Maguire and Willian?

-Trying to trade in Jimenez or Traore at the moment. Whats a reasonable offer?

Thank you!

John Wallin's avatar

Man these are basically impossible questions to answer without the inclusion of those directed Qs in the specifics so thank you for those!

-Hang onto Haller until the West Ham XI is announced; if he's not in the starting lineup this week you can cut him for McBurnie

-Nothing you can do with Maguire and Willian except hold them. No one is giving you draft day value for them, they're fine when they start. I'd bet both end the season inside the top 100

-Yeah, open-ended trade questions are tough. If your league is low on Adama b/c of the issues you might get him for ASM or even Lamptey; if they really hate him maybe JW-P + Willian gets it done... If I'm the Adama owner I'm still valuing him as a potential top 12 player and would want Maddison or Mahrez. Jimenez I'm much lower on that the general public it seems. I had him 13th overall in FWD - he's No. 32 overall right now on points with 4g (notable 0a) from six matches. I guarantee the price will be too high.

I read your previous article and you mentioned that Haller, was not going to make the turn to being a good fantasy player. But now that Michail Antonio is out, would you consider him a good pickup?

Also, I have Willian and Gareth Bale, are they ever going to make the turn to producing a good amount of points?

Here is what I wrote on Haller yesterday “I genuinely believe Haller gets the start. That said I will not be the least bit surprised if Moyes response is to do a like for like swap and just use Benrahma as the No. 10 w/ the rationale that he doesn’t want to change a winning team and Said hit 17 goals and is an OOP midfielder just like Antonio.”

Haller making the turn isn’t the issue for the articles this week it’s that he clearly is not going to justify the summer rank I gave him and will be much lower in the mid-season ranks. I am not willing to drop him in 12-Team leagues because his upside is quite good and the FA pool typically is shallow making similes players very unlikely to be available to stream later in the year.

What do you think about trading away Havertz/MItrovic for TAA/Raphina. Trying to strengthen my defense (Castagne-injury, R. James-starts?). I feel pretty good about my midfield (James/Grealish) and forwards (Sterling/Ings) so can afford to take a chance on Raphina. And trade wont go through until next week so still get Mitrovic against WBA. Fair trade/worth the switch?

Expand full comment
John Wallin's avatar

I think the Havertz side is the better one for ROS value but it’s a nice attempt to buy a bit low on Trent. That you still get Mitro vs WBA is great and you’re locking in some value there. If you could get a slightly better FWD back than Raphinha i’d like the deal more because i do think the step down from Mitro -> Raphinha is at least 15 spots.
