Doherty and Tsimikas?

Is Tsimikas just waiver wire material since Robbo is back in full training? Doherty the dud of the year? My other defenders are Firpo, Vestegaard and Semedo. So Im looking at 2 starting defenders for the week.

10 team fantrax scoring - alternates, Pinnock, Tino Livramento, Shameless Cold Man (Coleman), Webster.

Thanks

I think Firpo could be worse than Doherty. If Doherty starts I still expect him to score points. Tino is a must-add, he’s delightful to watch and got goood scoring potential. Pinnock is also solid but likely more CS dependent. I don’t care to add Coleman. Webster is a streaming option and you could easily drop Firpo and Semedo for two of those and feel comfortable this weekend.

Is Doucoure a better pickup than lees-Melou or norgaard?

Also, what do you think Antonio is worth in a trade, loving his output but worried about injury and obviously can sell high right now.

I dunno, that varies wildly between leagues and individuals. Two people in the same league may have different opinions on his health, or squad rotation or needs of their individual squad. Aim high, don’t settle, don’t narrow your options early.

I would rather have Norgaard; Doucoure is right in line with Lees-Melou for me and now that we are pst the drafts of summer I can see a strong argument for streaming both against mid-table and lower opposition where they should benefit from a bit more offense to complement their normal points in the DEF counting stats

Hi, John. What’s your concern level for Werner at this point? Worth the top waiver claim still in a Togga/Fantrax league if dropped or better to wait it out to see if any transfer window shockers emerge over the next week? Lukaku, Varane, Odegaard already claimed by other teams in my league.

If I had WW2 or lower, I'm putting in a claim. With WW1 you have to wait. I'm a bit concerned that he didn't get the start this past weekend with Pulisic out; the front three including Mason instead of giving him the link role in the middle three and dropping Werner to the wing? Yeah, that's not great. I still think Werner has elite talent for those matches when he starts but Lukaku is going to absolutely dominate the attack.

Good day John

OFPL draft question: I think I can persuade someone to trade me Sterling and I would give Havertz. My current midfield; Havertz, Jota, Raphinha, Beundia, Bailey.

Your thoughts?

Thanks

In OFPL i think that is an absolute no brained. Sterling can easily post a 15g 10a season. He’s done it before. Havertz absolute ceiling is what? 10g/10a if everything falls right? No imagine City don’t sign a gangly shoot-first forward? What’s Raz upside then?

Hi John, are you still hot on Emi? OFPL been offered Emi and Dier for Chilwell and Torrres. AV hasn’t showed much and I’m 2-0 so I think I can wait it out

I would happily take that deal since Emi is by some distance the most valuable player in that deal. if you could turn around and flip Torres to another manager while he’s hot ((or better yet trade him to someone who needs City cover; Jack, Raheem, KDB owners) for a regular starting player to build your bench strength.

Emi is going to be excellent. Villa hasn’t had a full strength side yet. I want to acquire that first choice attack coming out of the Intn’l break: tough schedule w. Spurs, United looming and low fantasy returns may make them available at a discounted price. Four goals in two matches while playing clearly below their best should tell you how good they can be all year.

I mean I’d be giving up Torres and Chilwell for Dier and Emi. Might see if he can give me reglulion instead of Dier. He actually wants Chilwell and Sarr but I don’t want to go there.

ugh flipped that Dier/Torres bit in my head! (i do that sometimes, sorry) I would not do Chilwell + Sarr because of Sarr. Dier is a useless piece in OFPL as far as I’m concerned so that’s Emi + best Free option? Yeah I still want the Emi side of the deal.

How would you compare Saka and ASM in a Togga scoring system with a boatload of stats (Accurate crosses, long ball accuracy, etc..)? I have ASM, Gross, Jota, Mane, Buendia, Greenwood, Mahrez, McNeil who all can play in the M/F slots (although they score according to the played position).

oMg i hate this site sometime. just deleted a full post. short version: i have no idea; custom scoring is impossible to judge without knowing the matrix and understanding how it creates outliers/weights scoring to position or players. I love Saka on talent and for the year but right now he is being punished for playing on an Arsenal team that don’t know wtf it’s meant to be doing.

Odegaard. Is he worth considering a waiver or a streaming option if he's free? I wasn't impressed with his score from last season as an attacking midfielder.

I’ve covered him pretty extensively on other comments here and twitter. https://twitter.com/fantasygaffer/status/1428770184496664581?s=21 I do think he is worth adding. I would go maybe as high as 25-30% of my total budget. I am worried Arsenal are very bad at football and his strengths requires a team that can finish for him to have top quality fantasy value in all formats.

Is Almiron worth holding onto over the likes of Murphy, Ritchie or even Fred? I also loved my pick of smith-Rowe, will odegaard be taking his place?

Expand full comment
John Wallin's avatar

I don’t think Almirón is worth holding no, but those are all names basically at the same level. Streaming with Murphy a touch ahead given his role and production for fantasy. ESR? Dunno about losing his place as he was there last season w. Odegaard and went for 62’ or longer in the final six, winning four matches along the way.

Do you see Doherty vs Tangana vs Aurier? Who do you see winning that righback role?

Aurier defensively is very poor. Doherty doesnt work well in a 4 . Tanganga can play in a 3 and a 4 .

John Wallin's avatar

I think this is the question because it’s certainly possible you could get both Tanganga and Doherty in the same XI depending on the tactics. If you’d asked me three weeks ago I’d have said it was Doherty’s to lose, but lose it he may have.

I wrote a lot about this earlier this week so I won’t repeat all that here but i would be shocked now if Tanganga left on loan and I’d be equally shocked if Nuno didn’t shift tactics and XI depending on opponents just as he did at Wolves.

Hi John, Castagne vs Luke Thomas! Who will start?

Expand full comment
John Wallin's avatar

I believe it’s Castagne’s job to lose and that’s not slating Thomas who has been quite good. If you’re asking about this weekend? I still think it’s Thomas. That injury Castagne suffered is a nasty one and if they can give him a couple matches here plus the break to get everything right I hope they will.
