In a 10 team, Togga extra scoring (i.e. long balls accurate, crosses, fouls suffered etc...) would you trade Firmino and Raphinha away for El Ghazi and Gundogan. Gundogan is at 19.73 ppg, Raph at 16.27 and Firmino at 18.85 under this scoring system. Thanks again.

I absolutely would not. I imagine that Gundogan score is heavily impacted by his goals which simply aren’t going to continue; but if the scores are heavily weighted because of high pt per incident for those other *expanded* stats YMMV. Also El Ghazi is about to be in a time share.

Hey gaffer, in OFPL, would you stream wood (whu, liv) or Fabio Silva (WBA) as the forward 3? Conventional wisdom would suggest going with the double gameweek, but those are tough places for Burnley to go, and WBA have been leaky recently.

I am sorely tempted to move for Ricardo pereira but as a team in win now mode and an otherwise strong defence (James, Stones, Digne, Tierney), I am opting for Craig Dawson’s (hopefully) double gw hosting Burnley and West Brom. I also like preserving a free spot for streaming a defender based on fixtures, which I lose if I prioritise pereira. Do you think I am undervaluing pereira? Thanks as always for your time!

What if Fabio Silva only gets 30’? I’d take Wood. LFC excel at conceding a late poachers goal.

I want Ricardo ASAP but that Dawson DGW has me adding him. Wrote about him for draft value last week and still believe he was a must add on the chance he gets both starts. Not sure Stones has the same upside there. I would want Ricardo rather than a streaming/match-up play in that format.

You’ve talked me into Wood — the likely 4 point OFPL floor is in itself more valuable. I’m also with you on pereira and will make him my first waiver priority. Stones is attractive to me because I also have ederson and the double City clean sheet threat almost functions as an auxiliary forward. Thanks again!

Thoughts on Telles? Thinking of dropping him for a consistent starter. Seems like Shaw has managed to hold onto the starting role.

John Wallin's avatar

Can’t trade him to the Shaw owner for something more than what’s on waivers? I’m shocked he hasn’t been able to supplant Luke on the left, but I doubt Ole shakes it up while they’re winning - a big loss to LFC might do the trick but UTD’s next seven after LFC are all very winnable matches for the Red Devils.

Telles arguably doesn’t even have more FPL upside than this version of Shaw, if these are the tactics that position is going to be fixed with then this is basically what returns you can expect.

I'm in a 10 man league with only 3 bench spots so our waivers are never too bare, especially with defenders. Matip and Shaw are both on the waivers, surprisingly. Without consistent minutes Telles' value is pretty low for a trade. So it's either hold and hope he gets some minutes or take a clean break. I thought he would be a nailed starter with a similar impact as Cancelo or Regulion but this is what makes fantasy fantasy lol. Think I should I go for the clean Shaw swap and risk the future rotation or pick up Matip and bank on Liverpool clean sheets? Or just hold out and hope Telles wiggles his way into the starting role?

In that format i would stream my DEF3 every week any way so yeah I’m not holding Telles. Three bench spots? In this economy? FOH. That’s a Sophie’s Choice level of difficulty on add/drop every single weekend.

Hey gaffer, Ricardo Pereira and Jota are on our league's waivers, do you think its worth picking either of them up this week for a longer term investment?

Expand full comment
John Wallin's avatar

I’ve been holding Ricardo all season in one league so deffo think he’s worth adding!!

Jota is more difficult. Would be great to get him in but Ben still doesn’t see him coming back before Feb 5; that strikes me as very optimistic. LFC could really use him so he’s a hold still but if I can only add one this week it’s Ricardo.

Hey gaffer, have been holding onto the #1 waiver spot all season with the hope I could use it on a big-time player that comes in during the Jan window. With that not looking likely, who would you suggest I use my waiver place for between Klich, Barkley, Havertz and Dallas (all recently dropped), or should I hold out in the hope a big player does end up arriving to the Prem? Toggatrax scoring, thanks!

John Wallin's avatar

Barkley if you’re cool w/ risk, Dallas if you want stability. What has Klich done to deserve being dropped?! That’s shocking to me. 21.5pts over his last two matches as well. Injury concerns?

Frankly all 4 should be owned and any of them / all of them are worth putting on your roster. I probably wouldn’t spend my No. 1 at this point but would want to be fastest to Free Agents if any of them aren’t claimed and if I had WW3 or worse would happily spend it for any of them.

Looking at picking up Tete...who would you drop out of telles, benrahma and havertz?

Expand full comment
John Wallin's avatar

Why? His upside as basically worse than any of them, Antonee Robinson is still there and he’s coming back off covid. If those are your streaming choices on your bench it Telles but you *should* be able to trade him for more than Tete...

Chaps's avatar

I saw last night that him and robinson both played and they are both classed as mids in that formation so don't have the GAD risk. Concerned over telles playing time with shaw looking strong

Expand full comment
John Wallin's avatar

Yeah in that situation it’s not a bad move; I don’t play in any ‘flex score’ leagues like that - quite the added layer of gameday risk which I strongly dislike (ie if I think Robinson is a mid and FT decides if the day he’s a DEF in any given formation my scoring projection and risk change as well and may leave me w/o another option).

Chaps's avatar

yeah that's a good shout - think i'll stick with telles and monitor if tete takes off!

Would you recommend dropping Che Adams, Tielemans, and/or James Justin to play this shortened Gameweek Out. Currently 4th in standings, down 5 points to my opponent. I have 2 players left with a possible 4 more to play and they have 4 players left to play. Not sure whether it’s worth risking or not...

Expand full comment
John Wallin's avatar

Not the first two, no. They’ll get snatched up quickly. Justin I would probably be comfortable dropping. He’s not an elite level defender, his performances have been fine but it’s the regular playing time which has led to his top 20 spot in total points. That 7.2 ppm is behind players like Walker-Peters (who might be available in your league now). That just means there’s a decent likelihood you can replace the production from FA, you may even be able to get Justin himself back. And then there’s the risk he losses his spot once we get the full Foxes defense healthy.

Hey Gaffer, does Ceballos have good value rest of season, or was that performance vs. West Brom a one off?

Expand full comment
John Wallin's avatar

It’s a one-off which is repeatable but it’s not like he suddenly slipped into a new gear for FPL purposes.

He scored 16pts in 90’; coincidentally he also scored 16pts in his last three 90’ outings, combined. And he only got to 90’ in 50% of his last 10 appearances.

Will he have a handful of 10+ pointers? Sure. But I’m not trusting him as more than a MID4. That’s useful because starts matter and he should be getting more. But I doubt he finishes the year inside the top 30-35 midfielders in total points.

now that Arsenal are back to their scoring ways, would it be a good trade to take Laca and give away Pogba?

Expand full comment
John Wallin's avatar

I’d rather have Pogba but Laca has been the most obvious beneficiary of the kids playing with recklessness. Here’s the thing: MID is still a mess! That’s both FPL and United. Laca is maybe a high end FWD2 but probably closer to the bottom and is heavily g/a dependent. If you’ve already made accommodations for PP’s earlier poor play and your MID is fine I can absolutely see an argument for making this deal. On balance I still tip slightly to Pogba ROS but you’re getting good value - might actually be a win/win trade! Haven’t seen too many of those recently.

Hey Gaffer, what level of player would you be willing to get Cancelo? Debating offering the Aguero/Jesus handcuff to the Cancelo owner who is short on elite forwards.

Expand full comment
John Wallin's avatar

I wrote a very long reply to this that got lost it appears...

Short rehash: i would do this. Especially in this climate where bench spots are more valuable, using both of them for one non-elite level of production (because sadly that duo isn’t a top 10 fwd right now). I would see if I can do a 2:2 and take back their *worst* FWD if that person is a regular starter (maybe Benteke?) or has some upside that’s still largely theoretical (Benrahma).

But a move worth making in any case.

I imagine you dream of a world where Benrahma is played 90 mins in his preferred position, as do many of us. Going off your mid season ranks what level of defender/midfielder would you be willing to let both of the city strikers go for?

Expand full comment
John Wallin's avatar

Anyone in the top eight excepting Ziyech. The Chelsea trio are all excellent but if the goal is consolidating talent, they’re still all maddening.

I would also test the waters and see if I could get Harrison + another piece. His numbers look very strong and as long as he keeps his place he will have top 10 midfield potential. Leeds isn’t changing their style and we can all just buckle up and enjoy it.

Harrison + Walcott? Seems a silly trade given the names involved but in togga scoring I like it

Hey Gaffer! Wondering which of the three (Toggatrax) players you would prefer over the rest of the season I'm in a 12 team league: M. Antonio, R. James or B. Chilwell

And if you don't mind how do you rate Telles vs. Justin over the next few weeks

Expand full comment
John Wallin's avatar

Hi George, man those are some good names to have to decide between. The issue with Antonio is only ever fitness and I can’t help drop him every time I do ranks because of it.

I had Chilwell as the No. 1 defender in the “mid season” ranks I did; he’s behind Cancelo now, probably behind Robertson but not really anyone else.

We all love Reece James but a) hamstring injuries scare me especially in young players and particularly in a season like this where fixtures can get rearranged constantly causing disruption to routine and additional congestion.

So I have them Chilwell Antonio James, with the last two being basically level on need and understanding Antonio has higher PPM potential but also increased risk.
